End the regime of administration to have more resources and increase surveillance to protect the pristine habitats of the Island, threatened as is known by repeated violations and by "cafone" tourism especially during the summer season.
These are the main requests brought by the Sardinia Region to the round table organized in view of the "General States of Italian protected areas" organized by the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security for December 17 and 18 in Rome.
Representatives of the national and regional parks and marine protected areas of the island participated in the summit, organized by councilor Rosanna Laconi .
One of the central themes, as mentioned, was the regime of commissionership that, for years, has characterized the management of national parks in Sardinia, namely the Geominerario park, the Asinara park and the La Maddalena park . This situation, explains a note from the Region, "in addition to slowing down programming, has led to the blocking of millions of euros intended for essential interventions for environmental protection, landscape enhancement and economic development".
"Commissioning cannot be the norm for the management of our parks," explains Councilor Laconi. Adding: "Only through the appointment of presidents and statutory bodies, representing local authorities and the world of associations, will we be able to overcome this impasse and unlock fundamental resources for the protection and enhancement of our extraordinary heritage ."
Focus also on the need to increase the staff of those responsible for controls: «The issue of surveillance has been addressed decisively – underlines Laconi – and the Region has already started a three-year plan to increase the staff of the Forestas agency and has allocated funds for the purchase of marine vehicles. These interventions aim to strengthen the control of the territory and the protection of habitats».
"The operational structures of the parks – in fact – suffer from a lack of staff to take into account, while on the economic front, the councilor expressed satisfaction for the recent allocations approved by the Regional Council. However, the need for a further step forward was expressed: transforming these funds into structural endowments that can guarantee continuity and sustainability in the long term".
Another issue to be brought to the ministry will be that of digitalization : «Currently the digitalization plan of the PNRR – explains the Region – concerns only national parks and marine areas, but excludes regional parks that should be included. The need to integrate the latter into the process was reiterated, in order to guarantee modern and efficient management for all protected areas».
"The proposals and reflections that emerged from the discussion - concludes the regional Department of the Environment - will be brought to the States General with the intent of stimulating targeted national interventions and a constructive dialogue with the Ministry. Sardinia intends to be a protagonist in the process of defining policies that combine sustainability, environmental protection and enhancement of natural heritage ".
