Over sixty abandoned cars in Quartu have been taken away, either as shelters for the homeless or transformed into dumpsters.

Homeless shelters, or transformed into dumpsters for all manner of junk. There are numerous abandoned cars in the Quartu area.
In 2025, Sicurezza e Ambiente, a company working in collaboration with the local police, removed 37 of them from provincial and municipal roads. Another 21 will be removed in 2026. Others are awaiting removal, such as the dirt road on Via Turati, a parking lot for patients heading to the local health authority.
Before proceeding with the collection, there's a lengthy procedure to follow. These procedures vary depending on whether the vehicles have license plates and chassis numbers that allow the owners to be traced, or whether the vehicles, even burned ones, are missing wheels and have no traces of ownership.
When the cars are actually owned by private individuals, they are charged with all violations of the Highway Code and the waste disposal decree. They are also responsible for all removal and transportation costs.
Removals are also underway for vehicles whose owners could not be traced.
For vehicles abandoned on public land and roads, the process is always the same: local police officers initially intervene and then forward the documentation to the relevant department. An order is then issued for the vehicles' removal, and if the order is not complied with, the vehicle is towed away by a company appointed by the department. The process is longer when vehicles are abandoned on private land.
