The prefect of Nuoro, Alessandra Nigro, has ordered the suspension from office of the mayor of Ottana, Franco Saba , following the execution of the order by which the investigating judge of the Court of Nuoro, Mauro Pusceddu, applied the precautionary measure of house arrest requested by the prosecutors Andrea Jacopo Ghironi and Riccardo Belfiori.
Saba is under investigation for attempted extortion, charged under Articles 110, 56, and 317 of the Criminal Code. The prefect's order was adopted today pursuant to Article 11, paragraph 2, of Legislative Decree 235 of 2012, the so-called Severino Law, which provides for the suspension of local administrators in the presence of specific precautionary measures .
The decree signed by the Prefect declares "the existence of grounds for suspension from the office of Mayor" against Franco Saba, elected to lead the Municipality of Ottana in the administrative elections of October 25 and 26, 2020. The decree has been forwarded to the Municipality of Ottana for implementation. However, the notice released by the Prefecture regarding the suspension from office does not currently address Saba's eligibility, as he remains the only candidate for mayor in the upcoming municipal elections scheduled for June 7 and 8. The notice released by the Prefect makes no reference to any grounds for disqualification from participating in the election.
