The number of West Nile infections in the province of Oristano is growing daily . The latest bulletin update records the ninth human case of 2025: a sixty-four-year-old man from Campidano, currently hospitalized in the Neurology department of San Martino Hospital.
"His condition," the health authority reassures, "does not cause particular concern."
As happens with every new outbreak, the Department of Hygiene and Prevention has implemented a series of checks: an epidemiological investigation and targeted disinfection of the area where the residents live, with a radius of 200 meters. This operation is being repeated, a sign that the virus continues to circulate in several municipalities in the area.
Eight cases had been confirmed in the previous days: among them, seniors over 70 and 90, as well as a man in his early forties. Six patients remain hospitalized, and two have already returned home.
Without a vaccine or specific therapy, the key remains prevention : avoid stagnant water, treat drains and wells, cover cisterns, protect yourself with repellents and mosquito nets, and wear long, light-colored clothing outdoors, especially at dusk.
