After nearly twenty years of closure and waiting, a completion date has finally appeared for Vico Arcais. The construction site sign recently installed indicates the completion of the restoration and safety measures on the unsafe wall of Palazzo Paderi: completion is scheduled for May 13, 2026.
The alley, in the heart of Oristano's historic center, had been closed for safety reasons due to serious structural problems with the wall of the building that overlooks Via del Carmine and Vico Arcais, a building partly owned by the Municipality and partly by the Local Health Authority. For years, that stretch remained hidden behind signs and barriers, becoming one of the most neglected corners of the city center.
Construction has now begun. The restoration and safety work, costing approximately €60,000, has been awarded to 3M Srl, while part of the work has been subcontracted to Novapa Srl.
The project aims to permanently secure the most critical portion of the building and allow the passageway to be reopened. Once the work is completed, it will also be possible to proceed with the new paving of Vico Arcais, part of the broader redevelopment project for the historic center.
If the timetable is respected, the alley could be open again within a few months, closing a matter that has been pending for two decades.
