Until a few months ago, it was a prospect discussed at institutional level, but today it becomes a practical decision: starting next academic year, Oristano will have a university nursing program. The green light comes with the approval of the regional budget, which through an amendment to the stability law guarantees the necessary funding.
The new course will strengthen Consorzio Uno's training offerings and address a structural shortage of healthcare personnel in the region. "The need for nurses clearly emerged during discussions with the Department of Health," explains Consorzio Uno President Gian Valerio Sanna, "but before delving into the organizational details, it will be essential to understand the actual financial resources to properly budget for teaching, non-teaching, and administrative costs." The course will have a limited enrollment.
Vice President Andrea Santucciu emphasizes the work done in recent years and thanks Dr. Barbara Collu, acting director of the nursing department of the Oristano Local Health Authority, and Federico Argiolas, former general director of the Local Health Authority, for their contributions: "This commitment could translate, in the short term, into an increase in the number of nurses in Oristano."
Regional Councilor Alessandro Solinas also expressed satisfaction, praising the outcome of months-long political efforts: "With the opening of the Community Houses, the need for nurses is destined to grow. Offering young people the opportunity to train in Oristano means investing in local healthcare." Once fully operational, the program will be able to train up to 40 nurses per year.
