Two members of the Restivo family, a clan that got into trouble in the past due to a series of scams carried out several times on Sardinian roads, were convicted. Alfredo Restivo, 30, originally from Locri, was sentenced to 5 months and a 200 euro fine, while his brother Giuseppe, 26, will have to serve 3 months and pay 120 euros.
The two were accused of fraud for having staged a false accident on the provincial road to Milis in September 2017. According to what was reconstructed by the police, the two, after having deposited grease on the bodywork of a Fiat Punto, blocked the car claiming that that car had hit their Alfa Romeo Mito.
Only the intervention of a third person prevented the deception of the two young people from going through. In the meantime, the alarm went off and the police were reported, who found themselves faced with yet another mirror scam or fake accident. In the past Alfredo Restivo together with other relatives had already been convicted of similar episodes, a decade ago they had struck in various areas of the island.
Prosecutor Daniela Muntoni asked for a sentence of one year and 4 months and a 400 euro fine for Alfredo Restivo, one year and a 200 euro fine for Giuseppe. The defense asked for acquittal, in the end the judge Marco Mascia accepted the sentence request but established lighter sentences.
