The expensive bill makes a first victim in Oristano . The “Numero 1” ice cream parlor , just behind the Tower in Piazza Roma, closes its doors . Energy costs were too high and the latest bills were a huge blow : 23,541 euros in the summer months of 2022 while in the same period a year ago the bill was 9,671.

“It's impossible to go on now, we can't take it anymore ” blurts out Eric Motto , 45, a native of Monza, who had chosen Oristano as his second home since 2015. Together with his family, he first opened an ice cream shop in S'Archittu then in 2019 the business in Piazza Roma. “We have always worked very well, then the first difficulties came with Covid and the lockdown. Now these bills force us to close - he adds - How can we bear such costs? We should increase the prices of ice cream but it would not be enough ”. Reluctantly, the only possible solution is the most drastic and painful one. " We had to fire our employee, it was not an easy choice but we had no alternative".

Great bitterness and anger for a family that has been working in the artisanal ice cream sector since 2005. "Now should have been the moment of recovery but this crisis has given us the coup de grace, unfortunately we have to give up". The hope is that the municipal administration can find some solution "if there were any facilities or contributions to try to resist," Eric Motto repeats. Meanwhile, from Sunday no more tables behind the Tower, the ice cream shop closes.
