With a school dropout rate of 18%, the highest in Sardinia, the province of Oristano faces a crucial challenge: retaining young people and restoring confidence in the future. It is in this context that "Disperdiamoci – Per non lascia nessuno dietro" (Let's Get Rid of Schools – To Leave No One Behind) was born. This project, promoted by the Province of Oristano and funded by the Youth Policy Fund of the UPI (Italian Union of Youth Policies), aims to combat school dropout and social marginalization through training, participation, and local networking.
On October 10th and 11th, the Lorenzo Mossa Institute hosted a workshop with Heart4Children and Professor Daniela Lucangeli, titled "Orienting Yourself to the Future." Two days of meetings and workshops brought together over 180 students and 40 teachers, who came together to reflect on the role of school as a hub for growth and inclusion.
"We have a duty to listen to young people and respect each person's learning curve," said Provincial President Paolo Pireddu. "Projects like Disperdiamoci are seeds of the future: they help new generations recognize their homeland not as a place to leave, but as a place to stay, grow, and commit."
The initiative aims to build the province's first Territorial Educational Pact, a stable alliance between schools, families, and institutions. In a Sardinia where dropout rates exceed the national average by 10%, "Disperdiamoci" aims to transform a structural problem into an opportunity for collective rebirth, restoring schools to their role as social and community drivers.
