More than one driver out of three in Nuoro and Tortolì is drunk while driving : this is the balance of the " Saturday night massacres " operation with which the Police carried out ad hoc checks to prevent accidents caused by driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

The Nuoro Traffic Police Section, with the employee Detachments of Lanusei, Orosei and Siniscola and the collaboration of a crew from the Police Headquarters of the Public Prevention and Aid Office as well as the medical and health personnel of the Nuoro Police Headquarters, carried out targeted verification services psychophysical conditions of car and motorcycle drivers in the cities of Nuoro and Tortolì.

Out of 38 drivers checked, 14 (36%) tested positive for the alcohol test . People of all ages, from 21 to over 70 years old.

Four of these had their cars confiscated , lighter penalties for the others. One driver was found to have a rate even higher than 2.09 grams per liter .

Other infringements of the Highway Code were also charged and a total of 145 driving license points deducted .

"Unfortunately - the police let us know - in the context of these checks it is frequently found that over 30% of drivers, in the evening and at night on weekends, are in a state of intoxication ".
