Next Sunday, January 4th, all hunters in the town will observe a day of hunting silence as a sign of mourning and condolences for the tragic death of Andrea Puddu, 58, a breeder from Oliena , who was killed during a hunting trip.
The announcement was made by the municipal administration, which saw its request, submitted through the councilor responsible for hunting, Federico Lai, and addressed to all hunters in Oliena, unanimously approved. This is a shared and heartfelt initiative, aimed at expressing sympathy to the victim's family and demonstrating the grief of the entire community. Special thanks were extended to the president of the self-managed club, Paolo Malune, for his commitment to raising awareness among the hunting leaders of the various Oliena clubs, encouraging their concerted participation in the initiative.
"This is a gesture of great human and community value," the Administration said, "an act of solidarity and shared condolences, demonstrating our community's sensitivity and respect in these most difficult times."
Meanwhile, today, Oliena is gathering around Andrea Puddu's family to say their final farewells. He died Sunday afternoon in the Sa Serra reserve, struck in the chest by four buckshot during a hunting trip.
The autopsy, performed by coroner Roberto Demontis at the Brotzu Hospital in Cagliari, confirmed the cause of death.
Giovanni Puligheddu, 71, the victim's hunting companion, is under investigation for manslaughter in the incident. He voluntarily presented himself at the police station and admitted his responsibility.
According to the reconstruction so far, the shot apparently came from his rifle when a wild boar suddenly appeared. The weapon was seized, and the Carabinieri are continuing their investigation to clarify the exact circumstances of the incident. Andrea Puddu leaves behind a wife and a 10-year-old son.
The funeral will be held today at 3:00 PM in the parish of Sant'Ignazio di Loyola in Oliena, amidst a climate of deep sorrow and compassion from the entire community.
