Olbia, fears over a large fire extinguished after three hours: ring road closed
The flames spread to the northern outskirts of the cityThe fire that had been alarming Olbia all afternoon was extinguished after a couple of hours. The large blaze broke out in the Mediterranean scrubland near the western ring road and spread from Cabu Abbas to the upper part of Viale Aldo Moro, threatening the nearby industrial area.
A massive deployment of forces was deployed on the field, engaging in firefighting operations for over three hours, coordinated by the Olbia Forestry Corps Station.
Two teams from the Olbia Fire Department, volunteers from the Civil Protection and local police associations also worked on the scene. A helicopter from the Limbara base, a Super Puma from the Alà dei Sardi base, and a Canadair from Costa Smeralda Airport also operated the water sampling operations in the Pittulongu sea.
The firefighting efforts required the closure of a section of the Western Ring Road and the Northern Overpass to facilitate the passage of firefighting vehicles and because poor visibility would have compromised traffic safety. Cleanup operations are still ongoing.
