Visits to Pedres Castle, a medieval fortress in use until the early 15th century, are prohibited . Mayor Settimo Nizzi issued an ordinance prohibiting access to the castle, which until now had been freely accessible up to the top.
The measure was taken following a note from the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of the Provinces of Sassari and Nuoro which highlighted the existence of lesions present on the top of the keep, the tallest tower, which could be dangerous for public safety .
The ordinance remains in effect until the building, built in the mid-13th century and used over the decades to defend Civita from attacks, is fully secured.
The castle had four towers, surrounded by polygonal walls, and currently two ruined rooms and the keep that allowed control of the territory up to the Gulf of Olbia are visible.
