The 41 migrants – women and unaccompanied minors, including 4 newborns – disembarked in Olbia shortly before midday on board the Ocean Viking ship, of the NGO Sos Mediterranee. The transfer took place in the middle of the sea, off Tavolara, where a patrol boat from the Port Authority welcomed the migrants and then took them to the Isola Bianca port. The people come from Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Ethiopia and other countries

The prefecture has set up a first aid point at the maritime station, in the sterile area of the embarkation zone, to carry out the initial checks with doctors, cultural mediators and health personnel . The protocol requires that migrants are first registered, then an anamnesis is carried out to understand their health conditions and then a provisional health code is assigned. Only after these operations will the sorting of migrants begin in the reception centers of the territory .

At the Olbia hospital, the gynecology department was alerted and an equipped room was also set up in the city hospital in case of need.

The operations are coordinated by the prefecture of Sassari. The State Police is also on site. Volunteer associations and the Municipality are also involved and have brought basic necessities for the migrants.

The Ocean Viking is at the center of a tug of war. During the night between January 20 and 21 , it rescued a dinghy in difficulty off the coast of Libya with 81 migrants; the authorities assigned the port of Genoa, but the NGO appealed (complaining about the government's "distant ports policy"). And a Sicilian court ordered that minors at risk and pregnant women be disembarked in Sardinia , a decision that came late yesterday evening when Mayor Settimo Nizzi was alerted. The ship is now heading for Genoa, but the League has asked that the disembarkation be prevented.
