Nurri, hours of "battle" to put out the fire started by lightning

The fire that struck the locality of Cugusi, in the countryside of the municipality of Nurri, started this morning. According to information provided by the Civil Protection Department to Nurri Mayor Roberto Cancedda, the blaze was started by a lightning strike that heralded the arrival of torrential rain.
To stop the flames, the Superpuma helicopter, which took off from the Forestry Corps' operational base in Fenosu, was needed.
However, the vehicles responding to the scene had to halt operations due to the arrival of a heavy storm. It was thought that the heavy rain had completely extinguished the fire, but it was still burning in the afternoon, and therefore the extinguishing operations continued. The flames reached several businesses, in an area where there are also vineyards.
