There is a suspect for the attempted murder of Albino Sella which took place in February 2020 in the countryside between Nuoro and Mamoiada. This is Fabio Delogu, a 47-year-old breeder from Nuoro. But the man's fate is a mystery: for weeks he would have disappeared from circulation and would not have returned home. Delogu, however, is not formally a fugitive. The news remained confidential for weeks. Little else is revealed about the story. Delogu's name ended up in the register of suspects after the investigation into the failed 2020 ambush in Albino Sella in the following months had been closed without significant developments.

Past of shadows

A story still full of questions and investigative secrets. Albino is the brother of Danilo Sella, killed in 2008 at the age of 23. In 2019, the Court of Cassation sentenced 32-year-old Marcello Gungui, a close friend of the victim, to 18 years in prison for that crime. Another young man from Mamoiada, Antonio Deiana, was sentenced to one year and 8 months for aiding and abetting (a crime prescribed by the Supreme Court). While last November, overturning the first instance sentence of the Court of Nuoro which had acquitted Albino Sella of the charge of being the perpetrator of the attempted murder of Antonio Deiana, who escaped an ambush in 2016, the Court of Appeal of Sassari had sentenced the 34-year-old from Mamoiada to 9 years in prison.

The ambush

The new investigation, on the other hand, would concern the events that took place at dawn three years ago, when Albino Sella had arrived aboard his pick-up at the sheepfold, on the old road between Nuoro and Mamoiada. As he got out of the car to open the gate, a hooded man armed with a rifle had appeared and pointed the weapon at him. The fired shot, however, had not been successful. Sella had told of having attacked. A hand-to-hand combat ensued, and in the end it was the aggressor who prevailed. The farmer from Mamoiada, left on the ground battered but alive, had managed to escape, while the aggressor, with his face covered by a balaclava, had taken back his rifle and had lost track using the pick-up of the victim.

The investigations

Silence fell on the case, the file had been archived, only to be reopened with new investigative elements which led to the registration of Delogu. With the new investigations, Sella was also questioned again. But now it's a mystery about the fate of the investigated Nuoro breeder, who seems to have disappeared into thin air.
