On March 22, 2025, the elections for the renewal of the Board of Directors of Avis Provinciale Cagliari OdV elected Nicola Ondradu as the new President . With over 13,400 members and an annual collection of 22,000 blood bags, the association continues to play a fundamental role in the transfusion system of Sardinia, confirming itself as the largest collection unit on the Island, founded on the values of solidarity and volunteering.

However, despite the commitment of the associative network, the difficulties related to the shortage of blood are growing. And the appeals that have been launched for years in an attempt to raise awareness among all citizens about donating, in the hope of not always having to deal with the shortage of blood bags, have not been enough. The numbers, however, speak for themselves and paint a clear picture of the situation. From 2023 to 2024, the blood bags delivered to the transfusion centers of Brotzu and the ASL of Sanluri decreased by 922 units (-617 in the first, – 305 in the second). This data highlights the difficulty of coping with the growing demand, essential for surgical and oncological treatments and for urgent transfusions.

The new Board of Directors, which will lead the association for the next four years, is taking the field to address this and other critical issues. The members are Andrea Angioni (Cagliari Municipal Avis), Nello Ariu (Cagliari Municipal Avis), Sandro Boi (Mandas Municipal Avis), Sebastiano Brianda (Muravera Municipal Avis), Marco Buscaglione (Cagliari Municipal Avis), Paolo Cassaro (Decimomannu Municipal Avis), Angelo Cugia (Dolianova Municipal Avis), Antioco Dessì (Senorbì Municipal Avis), Salvatore Diana (Assemini Municipal Avis), Giampaolo Farris (Sestu Municipal Avis), Francesco Letizia (Sestu Municipal Avis), Marco Mameli (Capoterra Municipal Avis), Nicola Ondradu (Cagliari Municipal Avis), Giulio Scano (Decimoputzu Municipal Avis), Donatello Zizzi (Cagliari Municipal Avis).

On April 3, 2025, the elected Board of Directors met at the registered office to assign the association positions. Nicola Ondradu is the new President. Antioco Dessì will serve as Deputy Vice President and Angelo Cugia has been appointed Vice President. Salvatore Diana will serve as Secretary, while the role of Treasurer will be held by Andrea Angioni. The Executive Committee is completed by members Marco Mameli and Sebastiano Brianda.
