Time is running out. And the new air service may not be operational within the timeframe announced by the Region. The new tender must be published in the Official Journal of the European Union by September 28th, with a new call for tenders expected by April 2026. All eyes are therefore on Brussels, hoping that the EU offices will officially begin the administrative process.

Appeal

"There's no clarity or timeline regarding the new call for tenders and the extension of the old one to April 2026," says Nicola Contini of UGL Trasporti. "The only thing that's certain is that if the call for tenders isn't published in the Official Journal of the European Union within a little over a week, the deadlines announced by the Region may not be met."

Turning point

The launch of the new continuity has some solid foundations, but it won't be without its uncertainties. Among the new features announced is the increase in frequencies, already envisaged in previous agreements but often not respected by airlines.

Then there's the issue of extending the benefits to non-residents with family ties up to the third degree to Sardinian citizens or who are caring for sick family members. How will the family relationship be proven? And who will be responsible for verifying the requirements upon boarding?
