The Muravera fire finally appears to be under control . After devastating the Mediterranean scrub on the "S'Acqua e Secci" hill , a few kilometers from the town, the flames were contained with interventions from above and on the ground, resulting in a truly extraordinary mobilization.

About twenty homes were evacuated, and two women were rescued by forest rangers and firefighters as the flames approached their home. All the houses on the hill were saved, as well as a riding stable. While the site cleanup began, the fire had also affected dozens of hectares of land.

Mayor Francesca Mattana , head of Civil Protection, was also present for several hours. "This is a painful day for our community ," she said. "Helplessly watching hectares of our land being devastated by flames is deeply wounding for all of us ."
"Since 12:00 this morning," he specified, "a large fire has broken out in the S'Acqua e Secci area and has severely affected our municipality. Dozens of men and women from the Fire Brigade, the Forestry Corps, the Carabinieri, the local police, and volunteers are on site, under the invaluable coordination of the Civil Protection Department, supported by the vital intervention of three helicopters and two Canadairs. For safety reasons, we have been forced to evacuate several homes , some as a precaution."
Mayor Mattana also expressed " deep gratitude to all law enforcement officers and emergency responders for managing the emergency and traffic , ensuring the safety of operations. I fully trust the authorities' work to shed complete light on the origins of this disaster: if human intervention were behind this devastation, it would be a criminal and unspeakable act against our entire community."
