He had opposed the transfer of some Giants of Mont'e Prama to Cagliari to undergo restoration, closing the civic museum "Giovanni Marongiu" of Cabras for several days. Not even allowing entry to the structure to the top officials of the Superintendency who then reported the mayor for interruption of public service. A case that became national.
After more than four years , however, the preliminary investigations judge ordered the archiving of the proceedings against the mayor Andrea Abis due to the groundlessness of the crime report, considering the conduct of the mayor a legitimate exercise of the prerogatives and duties of mayor. Abis himself recalls the story: « The facts date back to February 2021, when the management of the Giants of Mont'e Prama became the subject of dispute between the Archaeological Superintendency of Cagliari, which had ordered the transfer of the statues from the Cabras Museum to the capital city of Cagliari for the purpose of subjecting them to restoration, and the Municipality of Cabras which, in the absence of reassurances from the Superintendency regarding the subsequent restitution, opposed the transfer, insisting that the restoration take place on site». "On February 9, 2021 - Abis explains - and on the eve of the removal operations, at the moment of maximum tension, I decided to sign an order temporarily closing the museum for reasons of public order , to avoid possible disturbances arising from the widespread popular dissent surrounding the transfer of the sculptures. The following day the transfer of the sculptures was prevented and the Superintendency proceeded to report me for interruption of public service . On February 13, we held an unforgettable demonstration of political vindication for the return of the Giants to Cabras, in the presence of the municipal administrators, the mayors of Oristano and Sardinia, the many regional councilors, the schools, the citizens. A unanimous chorus of voices united in the cry "Giants to Cabras". It was a tough, bold and fortunate battle, but above all it was a just battle".
