"Gourmet" thieves in Monastir, where last night unknown thieves stole several dozen kilos of prawns ready for New Year's Eve dinner.

At “Coyote” , a restaurant-pizzeria in the San'Angelo area, a stone's throw from the roundabout for San Sperate, the Lucullan banquet with 150 reservations is therefore at risk of being cancelled.

"The place is out-of-doors only: we had everything ready for the dinner, but this morning my colleagues found the gate open and, once inside the place, they noticed the theft: bags of mussels opened and thrown on the floor and, above all, the lack of 11 cans of prawns costing 45 euros a box," says Luca Porru , the owner of the place.

He had no choice but to report the incident to the Carabinieri in Monastir and search for the delicious shellfish in the shops open on New Year's Eve. It was a race against time to save the New Year's Eve dinner the restaurateur hopes to win.

"The stall won't be canceled: I'm working hard to buy back the prawns, and I hope I can find the goods, otherwise we'll be forced to change the menu," assures Porru, who is counting on the support of the video surveillance system to identify the perpetrators of this bizarre theft. "Whoever drove by those areas between midnight last night and 8:00 this morning could have done so only to reach my restaurant and commit the theft."
