Clashes between fans in via Nazionale in Monastir yesterday around 3 pm, a few meters away from the Stadio Comunale where the Eccellenza match between Monastir and Tempio was played. A group of about 80 supporters from Gallura – who arrived independently – after a short procession along the main road of the town came into contact with local supporters and damaged some cars, with the breaking of the window of one vehicle.
In view of the match, given that there had been problems in the first leg, the home club had prepared (together with the police) a plan for the Tempio fans to enter the facility, with the presence of police and carabinieri at the two entrances to the Comunale. But the group of visiting supporters at the stadium never showed up and left Monastir after the clashes . Inside, the match took place regularly and without any public order problems. There were some minor injuries.
" What happened outside the stadium has nothing to do with sports: it's crime ," said the bitterness of Monastir president Marco Carboni. "As a club, we are the injured party and we have no responsibility. As president, I had already been active since last Monday with Digos, the police commissioner and the police, so much so that the Carabinieri were sent, whom I thank for their professionalism and for how they acted, with the marshal present on site to command the operations." The plan was for the Tempio fans to be diverted, once they reached the entrance to the town, to a space designated exclusively for them . "Unfortunately, before reaching the stadium, they devastated the town and smashed car windows with sticks and other objects," Carboni said. "They reminded me of the Napoli fans three years ago in Cagliari: they did the same thing on the main street of Monastir, then after the devastation they left without reaching the stadium."
At the end of the match, the two clubs and fans present in the facility participated in the third half in the Club House, offered - as usual - by Monastir supporters to the visiting teams. " What happened near the stadium has nothing to do with the fans and I hope that the necessary measures will be taken: Monastir is a quiet town, where nothing has ever happened . And there is no rivalry between us and the Temple, in fact we are on very good terms with the club", concludes Carboni.
