The seizure of the Tirrenia Moby Ale 2 in service on the Genoa-Ajaccio-Porto Torres route , seized in Corsica due to a dispute between the shipowners Onorato and the Norwegian group Siem, which asked for it to be blocked, becomes a diplomatic case. There were 650 passengers and tons of cargo on board.

The regional transport councilor Barbara Manca wrote a letter to the Italian ministries of Foreign Affairs and Transport, Antonio Tajani and Matteo Salvini, and to the Italian ambassador to France, Emanuela D'Alessandro, to ask for immediate interventions.

Although maritime territorial continuity is an exclusive competence of the Italian State and despite the fact that in the months from June to September there are no protection regimes for passengers resident in Sardinia, the member of the Todde Council intervened to obtain greater guarantees for people and goods moving by sea to and from Sardinia.

«As is known», we read in a press release, «in recent days a ferry from the Moby shipping company was seized by the French authorities due to alleged bureaucratic and administrative problems. A measure that caused considerable inconvenience, especially to hauliers who needed to reach the island with their vehicles loaded with goods."

Councilor Barbara Manca requested «an urgent intervention by the Italian diplomatic representatives in France to ensure that the transporters stranded on the ship are put in a position to disembark and be able to take the goods to their destination as soon as possible, without further inconvenience and costs» .

At the same time, the councilor turned to the Ministry of Transport «for the preparation of a planning act aimed at including, in the next tenders, the provision of public service obligations valid for the whole year in relation to the essential maritime routes between Sardinia and the Italian peninsula, with the precise need to establish a stable and effective connection for both passengers and goods. In the letter Manca underlined the importance of a public service that cannot be interrupted for any reason or cause, except force majeure, also with a view to respecting the recent constitutional provisions on insularity".
