The photovoltaic plant in Putifigari, in a UNESCO protected area, will not be built . The Ministry of the Environment itself has initiated the revocation of the environmental impact assessment.
On October 3, the Ministry of Economic Development approved the installation of approximately 86 hectares of photovoltaic panels in the Putifigari area. These panels will be divided across two fields that the Rome-based company Ine Seddonai Srl intends to place in the localities of Seddonai and Monte Siseri. This is despite the Ministry of Culture's objection, due to the presence of a Domus de Janas necropolis in the very area where the system was to be built .
A decision that had sparked vehement protests from the Region , local authorities and committees against energy speculation.
Now the Mase has initiated the procedure to cancel the EIA. Not because of the protests, but for a technical reason, given that "the Superintendency's opinion was declared illegitimate due to flawed criteria, compromising the protection of archaeological heritage."
Essentially, the Mase document dated November 27 states, the approval was granted because the Superintendency's opinion contained an "error in the graphic representations of the protected areas" pursuant to the 2021 law on renewables. Having identified the error, the Superintendency itself highlighted that a large portion of the plant "does not fall within a suitable area." It should be emphasized that these are not the suitable areas identified by regional law, but rather parameters established at the national level in 2021 to protect areas of cultural interest.
The opinion will therefore be revised and the picture will change completely, President Todde exults: "Whatever decision this government makes, our position is firm. No project will jeopardize our environmental and cultural heritage. The protection of our heritage is non-negotiable ."
