State police operation against the exploitation of illegal work. The raid, which began at dawn, made it possible to dismantle a criminal association and arrest five people.

The agents discovered that dozens of foreigners guests of the Monastir Extraordinary Reception Center were recruited to employ them illegally in some farms and in the vineyards of well-known wineries in the Cagliari area.

The Flying Squad carried out five arrests against as many Pakistani citizens, living in Cagliari, all with residence permits in Italy, under investigation for having set up and organized a criminal association aimed at illicit intermediation and the exploitation of illegal work, with violation of national contracts and workplace safety regulations.

Another Pakistani citizen, who allegedly acted as a driver for the organisation, is under investigation and is at large.

From what emerged, those arrested took foreigners from the CAS and took them to work in some agricultural companies in the province, which exploited them by giving them a wage of 5 euros an hour. Sometimes workers also had to provide meals for the day.

In total, 12 owners of agricultural companies and wineries are being investigated while at liberty because they allegedly used labour, subjecting workers to exploitative conditions and taking advantage of their state of need.

60 men from the Flying Squad, the Abbasanta Crime Prevention Department and the Cagliari Mobile Department were employed in the operation.
