The "Ciusa" secondary school and the "Buccari-Marconi" institute have been closed for rodent control. Cagliari's mayor, Massimo Zedda, ordered the closure with two ordinances that also affect the schools at Via Meilogu 18 and Viale Colombo 60.

The "Ciusa" secondary school, part of the "Giusy Devinu" comprehensive institute, will be closed from Thursday, October 8th to Wednesday, October 14th . Activities at the "Buccari-Marconi" school are suspended until the cleanup is complete. Ventilation and cleaning will be required before reopening.

The mayor's decision comes on the day of protests by students in Cagliari and the surrounding area , who launched a self-organized strike to denounce the presence of rats and cockroaches. The students' ire was sparked by the rodents found in classrooms and bathrooms at the Martini school, located in the Monserrato campus on Via Cabras , outside which the students gathered. Students from the Viale Ciusa campus, the Pertini school, and the Foiso Fois school also joined in.

The problem recurred even after an initial rodent control operation, partly due to the proximity of the Monserrato municipal waste management center: "The problem doesn't just affect the schools, but the entire Terramaini area," says Pino Aquila, of the regional coordination of school councils, who calls for greater cleanliness and greater collaboration between schools and the municipality.
