Attempted murder , at the height of an argument , yesterday afternoon in Meana Sardo , where a 49-year-old farmer hit a 54-year-old man in the back several times with a billhook .
The two are neighbors on the land , the causes of the argument are still unclear .
The 54-year-old was transported to Brotzu in serious conditions .
The farmer attempted to escape but was tracked down and arrested.

"Community shocked and stunned", commented Mayor Salvatore Marras.
