Car thefts, burglaries and bar raids. The last few weeks have been quite hot on the security front and in Marmilla there is alarm again. Concern is increasingly widespread among the population, while the administrators are calling for more controls.

The latest episode, in chronological order, happened a few days ago in Escovedu, a hamlet of Usellus: criminals broke into a house and, after rummaging through everything, stole jewelry and cash. A few days earlier, thieves went into action in Simala where they stole a car that was abandoned after a few hundred meters because it had no gas.

The criminals, however, were not discouraged, they used another car to reach a bar in Zeppara and carry out another robbery. They forced the door of the place, took away the money changer and immediately fled. All the episodes were reported. In the past months there had been numerous thefts of weapons that had alarmed the population, there had been checks and searches by the police and carabinieri.

The mayor of Simala Gianmarco Atzei claims that the «territory is quiet but for over a year there have been episodes of petty crime, thefts and repeated damages that undermine the serenity of our community». The mayor recalls the thefts in the countryside but also the damage to the video surveillance system and admits a certain concern.

The mayor of Gonnosnò Ignazio Peis is on the same line: «We don't feel at ease – he explains – in the past perhaps the episodes were more numerous, but this resurgence is not reassuring». From Ales the tricolour sash Francesco Mereu insists on the tranquility of the area and maintains: «When certain episodes occur, I think they are the work of people who come from outside – he underlines – We hope for a strengthening of the police forces even if the controls are there».
