"We demand justice for our son, we want the truth." Cinzia and Giuseppe, the parents of Mario Siffu, the 32-year-old from Porto Torres who died on the afternoon of Tuesday, March 24, from sepsis at the Santissima Annunziata hospital , were interviewed by investigators.

The Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation into the case of the young man, who has been held in the Bancali prison for approximately six months and is now at the end of his sentence. The NAS, the specialized unit of the Carabinieri, is proceeding with the investigation under the direction of the prosecutor Paolo Piras, who is leading the investigation.

Having undergone emergency surgery the night after being admitted to the hospital on March 23rd, the 32-year-old died the following day in the intensive care unit . The family lawyer, Giuseppe Onorato, has yet to receive any information regarding the possibility of performing an autopsy on the young man, who had been complaining of abdominal pain due to intestinal obstruction for some time.

The parents have asked the Prosecutor's Office to determine whether clinical and diagnostic tests were ordered during the period of suffering . Sardinia's prison ombudsman, Irene Testa, awaiting formal feedback from the health, treatment, and administrative departments, stated a year ago: "Some prisoners have been waiting for treatment for over a year. The unfitness of the facilities further compromises the ability to provide adequate healthcare, exposing prisoners to serious health risks."
