The trial with immediate judgment opened this morning before the Juvenile Court of Sassari against Emanuele Sircana , the 21-year-old man who ended up in prison last June on charges of voluntary homicide and desecration of the corpse of Mario Sedda , the 39-year-old from Porto Torres who was tortured and killed on the night between 29 and 30 March 2021.
Present in the courtroom were the defendant and his lawyer Alessandra Delrio, as well as the lawyers representing the victim's family, Pietro Diaz and Costantino Biello.
Judge Guido Vecchione, after rejecting some objections raised by the defense regarding the generality of the charges, admitted all five prosecution witnesses and six defense witnesses, and acquired the technical report and the unrepeatable documents, including wiretaps, videos, searches, and seizures of cell phones.
Attorney Delrio disputes the vagueness of the charges, namely the accusation of murder and desecration of a corpse, because the defendant allegedly acted in material and moral complicity with other people.
"Sircana's role with other people who are still at large is not specified," the defense explains, "while the charge of desecration of a corpse remains unresolved, despite the fact that the unrepeatable technical examination did not detect any traces of corrosive substances on Sedda's body ."
The judge has scheduled the next hearings, the first set for February 16th , for the assignment of the expert appointed to transcribe the wiretaps, and the second for April 16th for the examination of the prosecution's witnesses, including the coroner who performed the autopsy on the victim's body.
Sedda was found on April 1, 2021, hidden in the ground on Via Sassari, at the entrance to Porto Torres , with a ceramic blade stuck in his cheekbone.
