"Ciao Mariano. We will not forget you."
Mariano Olla's classmates and teachers are in mourning, "shocked" by the death of Mariano Olla , the sixteen-year-old who drowned in Su Siccu during a beach party.
On the website of the Meucci-Mattei high school in Cagliari, friends and teachers wrote a letter to process their grief.
"On Friday night, while you guys were celebrating, we teachers were celebrating too: we had finished the exams, and for you they had gone well ", it reads.
"It wasn't an easy year, the third: new teachers, new subjects, the desire to play and chat with classmates, even during class. It wasn't difficult, however, to connect with you: all you had to do was smile, be kind and you reciprocated, with spontaneity and sweetness. The attitude of someone who isn't interested in anything that happens in class alternated with other moments in which you had the strength and courage to ask for help: you weren't afraid to talk about your difficulties in dealing with certain topics, certain subjects. You were strong, because it takes strength to ask for help."
Again: «Other times you would get discouraged, and then you had to insist, to make you work, and it was an immense satisfaction when you approached the desk to hand in the assignment and said “Prof, I worked hard”. Seeing you go from indifference to commitment. Seeing you arrive at the desk with the notebook in which you had done the required work. Hearing you say, after the last test of the year “Prof., I don't answer when you ask questions, because I'm shy, but I listened to you, all year” . You wanted to pass. You wanted to find a summer job, and you wanted to be calm. When we said goodbye, on the last day, you still had some doubts: Prof, do I pass with you? You'll see! Still doubts, and fear. Don't worry, little one. Here. Don't worry, little one. No more doubts, no more fear of not making it. We'll miss you, little one ».
