Despite protests from beachgoers, seaweed remains on the Margine Rosso stretch of beach along the Quartu coast, under the railing, one of the most popular beaches on the entire coast.
In fact, the Posidonia oceanica deposited in the stretch close to the sea wall will not be collected and piled up in collection points this year as is happening at Poetto.
Environment sector manager Valentina Lusso confirms this, explaining: "The seagrass under the railings is untouchable. That stretch was severely damaged by Cyclone Harry, and the seagrass helps recreate the beach that is now practically non-existent. For this reason, paradoxically, we hope it goes away as soon as possible; otherwise, we'd find ourselves in the same situation as Capitana, where there's been no beach for some time." The halt to the removal, "however, essentially concerns only the part where the seawall is," adds Lusso, "a small stretch where there are banks of seagrass."
De Vizia, on the other hand, continued to remove the Posidonia oceanica from the stretch beyond the seawall: as happened at Poetto, it is piled up at the bottom of the beach and will then be put back in its place at the end of the season.
Workers were also hard at work fixing the posts marking the dog area, which had been moved a few meters due to the seaweed. It will be officially inaugurated next Monday at 9:00 a.m. For the occasion, there will be a sea rescue demonstration with dogs from the SICS Sardegna association, and participating dogs will receive small giveaways and a special Zampa Quartese doc certificate. Local police officers will help explain the rules for safe beach living. Access to the area will be permitted to clinically healthy dogs, registered with the canine registry, treated for parasites, and vaccinated against the most common infectious diseases. Dogs must be kept on a leash and are not permitted on the beach with minors. Muzzles must be available for any eventuality. Dogs that are aggressive toward people and other animals will not be allowed.
