It may not be a strike, but discontent and protest are spreading . In fact, workers in the road haulage and logistics sector of the Cgil are on a war footing , following the accident that occurred this morning on the 131 , in which a truck driver, Filippo Ionta, from Rome, an expert driver and father, died.
The workers denounce the serious situation of the roads , through a document signed by their leader, Arnaldo Boeddu, secretary of Filt-Cgil Sardinia. «The road haulage and logistics sector of Filt Cgil – we read in the note – composed of drivers, couriers and those who are involved in the loading and unloading of goods every day is deeply shaken by this latest death that occurs while a colleague is at work . There is a very strong indignation that is indescribable».
"The workers - adds Boeddu - do not ask to call a strike, as when these dramatic accidents occur and to raise the issue of workers' health and the pitiful state of the roads even on our island . The workers ask us to force the institutions to take charge of the problem, to check all the construction sites, to enforce safety regulations and to set up a task force to try to eliminate accidents . There is not a day that we do not see workers mowing the grass in the ditches that we warn at the last minute because of tenders awarded at the lowest price". Arnaldo Boeddu concludes: "Today, a driver, a boy, a 48-year-old father is paying the consequences. Tomorrow, if we do not sit down at a discussion table where all the critical issues are examined, who could be affected?"
