A wind turbine has already been installed a short distance from the country church of San Pietro di Silonis, in one of the most beautiful locations in the Luras area. The same location where the company Sardegna Prime srl plans to build a wind farm with eight wind turbines, along with a storage system. This project (11 turbines in total) also involves the Tempio and Calangianus areas. Silonis is also at the center of two other mega projects: a forest of turbines over country churches, nuraghi, giants' tombs, and near Europe's largest granite monolith (inselberg), Mount Pulchiana.

The people of Lures say no to the brutal occupation of their land ; the City Council unanimously passed a resolution opposing the Sardegna Prime project . The resolution, sponsored by Mayor Leonardo Lutzoni, mandates municipal technicians to implement "every useful action to oppose the project's implementation." The minority group leader, Maria Giuseppina Tamponi, pledged the opposition's support in the battle against wind energy speculation. Around Silonis are giants' tombs, the nuraghe of Polcu, Caprioni, Santu Jacu, and Naraghoni, the medieval tower of La Turritta, and the rural churches of Santu Iacu, Santa Maria di Silonis, and San Leonardo.

The country church of San Pietro di Silonis is near a very important archaeological site, Li Cuncacci, and has been restored with EU and Italian Bishops' Conference funds. Its silhouette already features a wind turbine in the background. The director of Cultural Heritage for the Diocese of Tempio, Father Francesco Tamponi, has also announced that all necessary measures will be taken to protect the country church.
