A "public inquiry" to ensure full citizen involvement in the proceedings regarding the proposed construction of a landfill for non-hazardous special waste in the "Su Giri de sa Murta" area in the municipality of San Giovanni Suergiu.

The announcement was made by the Regional Department for Environmental Protection as part of the unified procedure that gathers all the necessary environmental assessments before authorizing such interventions. "National and regional legislation," reads a statement from Villa Devoto, "requires that projects with significant impact be subjected to careful scrutiny, taking into account both technical aspects and the voice of the affected communities."

For this reason, the Region has launched a public inquiry, following numerous comments submitted by the Municipality of San Giovanni Suergiu, by citizens— who also sparked a vibrant protest —and by local associations, including Italia Nostra Sardegna, who have requested "an open and transparent discussion."

"The Region," stated Rosanna Laconi, Councilor for Environmental Protection, "believes it is essential that the broadest possible participation be ensured on such a significant issue, which affects health, quality of life, and environmental protection. The public inquiry will allow citizens, organizations, and stakeholders to express themselves directly and constructively."

The process involves organizing public meetings, during which the project will be explained clearly and accessible, and citizens will be able to contribute their comments and suggestions. All documentation will be available on the regional portal SardegnaAmbiente, ensuring transparency and ongoing information.

"With this decision," Laconi concludes, "the Region confirms its commitment to making decisions based on solid foundations and in full compliance with regulations, while simultaneously prioritizing democratic participation and environmental protection as guiding principles in evaluating projects with significant impact on the region and local communities."
