Dragged ashore by the waves of the sea, a sea turtle "Caretta caretta" was found dead on La Pelosa beach , in the municipality of Stintino. His death was caused by a parcel tape ingested by the animal , yet another victim of everything that man throws into the sea.

The young beached specimen was spotted in the afternoon by the agents of the Stintino barracellare company who, engaged in environmental surveillance along the coast, reported the discovery to the competent bodies. The men of the local port authority and the carabinieri of the local station intervened on site together with the operators of the Crama association, Marine Animal Recovery Centre, who operate on the island of Asinara.

Having carried out an initial inspection, the Crama professionals identified the yellow adhesive tape which would have led to the death of the animal . The turtle was placed in a container to ensure its conservation in a refrigerator, before being transferred to the zooprophylactic institute to proceed with the assessment necessary to determine the cause of death.

«Unfortunately, another marine creature killed by man's stupidity , an episode that should make us reflect on the danger of objects and waste abandoned at sea – comments Rita Vallebella, mayor of Stintino – we must be aware that our every action has consequences, therefore I believe it is everyone's civic duty to ensure that the plastic and materials that turtles often ingest are not dispersed into the environment."

In the municipality of Stintino the fight for decorum and environmental protection now represents one of the battles being fought with the collaboration of all the associations. «Once again I would like to thank all the police forces - added the mayor - and the Barracellare company which is always attentive and vigilant in identifying suspicious situations in the area».
