"The objective of this Administration is to definitively dismantle the metal monument supported by the granite columns". This was stated by the mayor, Fabio Lai. It is a light metal structure of the brisoleil type, supported by thirteen cylindrical columns in Sardinian granite in height, which varies from 3 to 4 meters, built in Command Square, under the bronze bust of Anita Garibaldi, less than twenty years ago, in 2005.

With a view to enhancing a series of monuments that are «purely classical», continues the mayor, «this 'modern' work is particularly out of place and therefore the objective is to enhance everything by disassembling that structure, including the columns».

The Lai Administration is building on that site what it calls the "axis of culture" which sees in that square, precisely aligned, a bronze lion 2 meters high, on a granite base of the same height which will be inaugurated the day after tomorrow June 16, the bronze bust of Anita Garibaldi and the Palco della Musica (end of the 19th century), whose restoration works are finishing and the inauguration is scheduled for the end of the month.
