The agreement between the lawyers of the parties - Quartu Municipality and Cagliari Calcio - was reached a few weeks ago , then approved by the Quartu Council. Now there is also the signature that puts the final seal after more than ten years of legal battle on the Is Arenas stadium, once home of the rossoblù and a series of attempts at negotiations that then failed.
The story is recalled in the joint press release issued by the Municipality of Quartu – defended by the lawyer Enrico Salone – in agreement with Cagliari Calcio, assisted by the lawyer Giorgio Altieri of Tonucci & Partners: «After the signing of an agreement in May 2013 with which the Municipality granted Cagliari the area of the old municipal stadium, in order to renovate and start up the facility in Quartu that was supposed to host the rossoblù matches, a judicial investigation and various misunderstandings between the administration and the club gave rise to a complicated situation that allowed the stadium to be used only for a few matches , behind closed doors or with limited capacity. Given the impossibility of saving the Is Arenas project», it continues, «the structures located in that area were then moved to Cagliari to create the current Unipol Domus and a dispute continued for years where the parties mutually blamed each other for the failure of Is Arenas».
And again: "The outcome of the trial would certainly have been heavy for the party that would have been defeated. To avoid this, a settlement agreement was reached that sees Cagliari Calcio and the Municipality of Quartu renounce their mutual compensation claims. At the same time, as a gesture of attention towards the Quartu community, Cagliari has committed to making available a sum that should contribute to the restart of sports activities in the area that once hosted the Municipal Stadium ". Specifically, it is 350,000 euros in 24 installments.
A turning point for the Quartese stadium that can be reborn: the Municipality has requested and already obtained 1 million from the Region to redo the football field and athletics track, and started the planning.
