The president of the Sardinia Region Christian Solinas appeared in court in Cagliari this morning for the first hearing of the trial in which he is accused of abuse of office for alleged irregularities in some appointments within the regional apparatus.

The governor, sitting in the courtroom alongside his lawyers, was sent to trial on 3 October together with the former councilor for Personnel (now moved to Agriculture), Valeria Satta, who is also accused of the crime of extortion.

The then head of cabinet of the presidency, Maria Grazia Vivarelli, was also involved in the criminal proceedings: she chose the abbreviated procedure and was already sentenced by the preliminary hearing judge Ermengarda Ferrarese to 2 years and 8 months. In the sights of the Prosecutor's Office, the appointments of the general director of the presidency of the regional council, the lawyer Silvia Curto, and of the general director of Civil Protection Antonio Pasquale Belloi.
