While Matteo Salvini evokes a tightening of penalties, the mayor of Lanusei calls for a stop to social violence and to those who call for the use of pitchforks .
The case of the kitten thrown from a bridge in recent days in Lanusei is stirring up politics.
«In these hours – we read on the official Facebook page of the Ogliastra Municipality – the name of Lanusei is going viral on search engines due to an episode of unprecedented violence by some very young boys, certainly minors, perhaps even under 14 years of age. An event that has strongly shaken the Lanuse area community and that of the neighboring municipalities from which some of the individuals involved come from ." The "barbaric" gesture, it is underlined, was promptly censured by the mayor, council, majority and opposition, who took action together with the authorities to identify those responsible.
But the same condemnation «must be directed towards the violence that these children, their families and our entire communities are suffering on social networks. Thousands of people direct the worst insults and the most serious threats to children, to parents and to all Lanuseini, who knows through what twisted assimilation mechanism ."
The mayor lashes out against adults for whom "the judgment of guilt, the measurement and execution of the sentence must be conducted as centuries ago by a crowd with torches and pitchforks ". Because "it is clear that if this is the example, nothing will work" to combat youth problems.
The municipal administration therefore, "reaffirming its full and total censure towards the deplorable action", awaits justice to take its steps and "expresses full closeness to the families of the minors who will have to, together with their children, face a long re-education process ». And it dissociates itself "from the barbaric and invertebrate practice, a product of the times and capable of negatively influencing the education of our children, which legitimizes the unpunished celebration of hatred and violence through social channels". And it calls for the tightening of penalties also "against those who, from behind a screen and a keyboard, spread virtual violence, helping to generate violence for which we then pay the consequences in real life" .
Matteo Salvini also intervened on the case, sharing the video on social media: «Damned disgusting things, but how do you do it? I'm speechless. It is urgent to accelerate the tightening of penalties for those who mistreat and even kill our animal companions , as foreseen by the League's bill, now in Commission. These are criminals and they must be treated as criminals", he wrote, also "congratulating their parents for having educated them so well".
And an outraged citizen, Claudio Lauretti, has launched a petition in which he asks for the minimum application of the penalties foreseen for mistreatment of animals: a prison term of 3 to 18 months or a fine of 5 thousand to 30 thousand euros: «A similar gesture cannot pass unpunished." In just a few hours the petition surpassed 500 signatures .
