The number of human cases of West Nile virus infection in the Province of Oristano has risen to twenty.

A man over seventy is hospitalized at San Martino Hospital in Oristano. The Local Health Authority (ASL) has announced that the Department of Prevention immediately began an epidemiological investigation and preventive measures, which include disinfecting the areas where people who have contracted the virus live.

The director of the Prevention Department, Maria Valentina Marras, recalled: « We once again invite citizens, especially the frail and elderly, to prevent any risky situations and to protect themselves from the bites of this insect with all the tools we remember: avoid stagnant water, protect yourself with repellent sprays and long clothing when outdoors, and screen your home with mosquito nets».

"The number of infections continues to rise. This is why it is essential to observe these unique prevention and protection measures against the disease. And it is essential that those caring for the elderly and children ensure that both are implementing the same protective measures," he said.
