Five people arrested, almost 9 thousand cannabis plants and another huge quantity of the same type of drug, already dried and stored in heat-sealed and vacuum-sealed bags, weighing more than 300 kilos, seized.

This is the balance of the new operation carried out by the Mobile Squad of the Oristano Police Headquarters against drug trafficking in the area.

In the late morning of 9 October last, the investigators of the Police Headquarters, assisted by the operators of the Sardinia Crime Prevention Department, caught in the act of crime the people who ended up in handcuffs, all originally from Nuorese and with police records, while they were intent on charging an articulated lorry with illegal Indian hemp plants just uprooted from a huge plantation cultivated within a land located in the countryside of Santa Giusta.

Also present was the owner of the land, who at first, although lacking the necessary documentation, had tried to convince the agents of the legality of the plants.

The investigations carried out by the Regional Cabinet of Scientific Police have instead revealed the opposite, namely that it was illegal marijuana, with an active ingredient over twenty times higher than the maximum required by law (on average 16% with peaks of 20%, instead of 0.6% as maximum tolerance).

During the checks, a dozen full bags of dried marijuana still to be processed were also found, for a further 50 kilos of substance.

It is one of the largest illegal marijuana plantations ever found in Sardinia. From the investigations carried out by the investigators, it was also possible to ascertain that the land in which the plants were planted was initially intended to accommodate a legal plantation.

Upon arrival of the officers, the five arrested had already uprooted half of the shrubs and had already loaded them aboard a truck, the container of which was overcrowded and ready to leave for a first trip, which would be followed by a second one when the harvest was completed. .

Once the drug sampling procedures were completed, the remainder of the drug was then destroyed on the spot, as proceeding to its overall collection would have been excessively burdensome and its storage in the police department's deposits would not be possible due to the large quantity.

Today's operation was carried out by investigators a few days after another similar operation, following which a man residing in Marrubiu was arrested with over a quintal and a half of marijuana hidden in the fold.

The investigation continues to trace the identification of all members of the criminal group behind the large plantation, also in consideration of the fact that at least three other people, present during the collection of illegal shrubs, managed to escape the police blitz.
