In Cagliari the new “bus scam”: fake season ticket holders appear, but it’s a hoax
(Fake) cards are back at rock-bottom prices. Once again, the public transport company CTM is in the crosshairsPer restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
The page was created less than 24 hours ago but there are already many posts online. «Special offer for residents of Cagliari. Buy the CTM Cagliari Pass Card and use public transport and parking for 1 year absolutely free of charge and without recharging. The promotion is valid until the end of the month», can be read on the Facebook profile “Trasporti Cagliari”. But what may seem at first glance to be an opportunity not to be missed is actually a hoax .
To make it all even more believable, the administrators thought it would be a good idea to upload photos of the fleet of the company that manages public transport in the Cagliari area. So here are the buses on display in Largo Carlo Felice, in Via Roma. To make matters worse, there is also an impressive array of (fake) profiles that in the comments try to convince unsuspecting users to make their purchase. "I would love to receive a postcard like this! Thank you. We are waiting for the delivery. Already filled out the form, the manager called to clarify the delivery details!", writes Emily Coleman. "I didn't believe it until the last moment until I received the card! Thank you so much!", adds David Finneman. The host of commentators also includes Sébastien Moreau, who thanks CTM for "this wonderful promotion! We received the card literally in a few days". Comments that arouse quite a few suspicions, starting with the names, which certainly do not seem to have a clear Sardinian origin.
But how could you get this phantom pass? It's very simple, and the instructions are clear: "To receive a card, click on the "Apply" button under the photo," it continues. Finally, the key to access the offer: an external link to Facebook, which has nothing to do with CTM. It's not the first time that the transport company has been targeted on social media with fake promotions. In the past, too, the invitation had been to pay attention and to turn exclusively to the official CTM pages.
