It's been a hot day on the firefighting front in Cagliari, the surrounding province, and southern Sardinia. Firefighters began responding in the early hours of the morning.
To begin with, a brush fire engaged two emergency response teams from the operations centre in an area of the countryside on the outskirts of Elmas, near Giliaquas .

Another major intervention was carried out on the outskirts of Assemini, in the S'Abixedda area: wind-fueled flames spread, grazing the perimeter of a workshop and several buildings belonging to nearby businesses. Firefighters quickly contained the blaze.
In Quartu, in the San Luca area, a fire broke out in an area near some houses: crews prevented the fire from reaching parked vehicles and other nearby structures.
Further interventions for vegetation fires began in the afternoon.
A large fire broke out in the countryside surrounding the military airport base between the areas of Decimomannu and Villasor.
Other interventions were recorded in Villacidro – the emergency response team from the Sanluri detachment was at work – and in Uta, close to some houses.
In the afternoon, a Canadair intervened in the north of the island, in Viddalba, in the Sassari area, where approximately ten hectares went up in smoke.
