The 43-year-old man from Santa Maria Coghinas who, late Tuesday evening, January 20, struck Oussama Mahjoub, the 23-year-old Tunisian man who died instantly following the accident on State Road 200 in Sorso, was arrested and required to sign in at the Valledoria Carabinieri station.
This morning, the man, still shaken by what happened, appeared before the preliminary investigations judge of the Sassari Court, Gian Paolo Diana. Accompanied by his lawyer, Marcello Mura, he exercised his right to remain silent.
The investigating judge granted the defense's request to reject the precautionary measure of house arrest requested by the public prosecutor, applying the mandatory signature measure.
The investigation, coordinated by Deputy Prosecutor Paolo Piras, involves the crimes of failure to render aid and vehicular homicide.
