Hell of fire in Porto Torres: «Criminal act, it could have been a tragedy»
An evacuated family, unbreathable air and fear in via Dante AlighieriFlames and smoke, unbreathable air and fear in via Dante Alighieri. A lot, among the condominiums of the building in the new residential district of Porto Torres. In the portico under the first floor of the 4-storey building all hell broke loose.
It happened on Thursday night at 11.30pm, when most of the tenants were asleep. The bursting of tires of two cars that were on fire woke up some residents. In a few moments they found themselves in the square, outside the houses. They saw the flames devour a BMW series 3 and a vintage Mercedes , both parked in the portico stalls. The fire burned most of the materials stored in a garage, and two other garages were damaged.
The soot reached the first and second floors. A family of 4 was evacuated. The immediate alarm of one of the condominiums made it possible to avoid the tragedy. "I was immediately alerted to what had happened and I immediately filed a report with the police," says the owner of the BMW, a 62-year-old businessman from Porto Torres. He has no doubt that this was a malicious act.
The carabinieri of the local company are investigating the case and will collect the report drawn up by the firefighters, who intervened from the Porto Torres and Sassari offices with a tanker. They put out the flames, after evacuating an entire family living on the first floor. The consequences could have been much more serious. On one wall of the porch there were the pipes for the condominium gas system. "The building could have been blown up, this is an act of criminals", says Romolo Fusco, 43, the worker of a company in the industrial area who, together with his wife and two children, had to temporarily abandon their home to allow the 115 teams to proceed with securing the building. It was able to deal with the emergency, as in many simulations carried out in the industrial area of Porto Torres. "However, I won't deny that my children were scared, the burning car was right under my bedroom." Around one o'clock the family was able to return to their home. The police are also on site investigating the matter.
