Pasquale Murgia 's condition immediately appeared critical, but not such as to suggest that the 81-year-old pensioner from Talana could die shortly thereafter. Involved in an accident on the provincial road 56, between Talana and Lotzorai, the man, unmarried and having long since moved to Tortolì, died a few moments before entering the emergency room of the Lanusei hospital . A hemorrhage would have been fatal. Investigations into the road tragedy, which occurred yesterday afternoon, are underway by the Carabinieri of the Lanusei company who will have to reconstruct the exact dynamics of the events to ascertain the responsibilities of the head-on collision.

The accident

After the impact with a Porsche Macan, the Fiat Panda driven by Murgia was completely destroyed . The shattered windshield and the position of the car, poised between the roadway and the ditch, made the first rescuers who rushed to the scene think the worst. Inside the old small car the pensioner was found lying on the passenger seat. He was in pain but conscious . The Tortolì firefighters extracted it, arriving around 4.30pm yesterday at kilometer 7 of provincial road 56, in a stretch that falls within the Talana territory. Murgia was rescued by 118 personnel and transported by ambulance to Nostra Signora della Mercede in Lanusei. The SUV, after skidding, ended its run by overturning on the ground not far away. The driver, Marcello Muggianu (28), from Talana, owner of a commercial business in Tortolì, was unharmed .
