The trial of a 49-year-old man accused of starting a huge fire in Castiadas , in the Olia Speciosa area, in August 2021 will begin on April 15th.

According to what was reconstructed by the Forestry Corps which conducted investigations into the origin of the fire, on the morning of August 28th three years ago the man, a worker engaged in the municipal green maintenance construction sites, set fire to a pile of branches after pruning of some plants, with the intention of "accelerating" the regular disposal procedures, which would have been longer. But from that fire a fire arose, which devastated 5 hectares of countryside and to extinguish which 55 operators from the Forestry Corps, the Forestas Agency, the Fire Brigade and the Volunteer associations, as well as aircraft, including a Canadair.

Over time, the Forestry Corps investigators managed to reconstruct what happened and gather clues to the 49-year-old's responsibility. Now the investigations have been closed and, as mentioned, the man will go to trial.

He faces up to 10 years in prison.
