The psychiatric assessment carried out on Davide Iannelli, the 49-year-old on trial before the Assize Court of Sassari for the murder of his neighbor, Toni Cozzolino, 49, burned alive on the street in Olbia on March 11, 2022 and died in hospital after ten days of agony, is valid.

This morning the judges rejected the exceptions presented by the defense, which requested the nullity of the expert report carried out by psychiatrist Claudia Granieri, which shows that Iannelli is perfectly capable of understanding and willing.

Defense lawyers Cristina Cherchi and Abele Cherchi contested the fact that the expert had not personally conducted the interviews with the defendant to subject him to tests, but had delegated the task to her delegate.

During the hearing, the defense then filed documentation to prove that Iannelli had a brush cutter at home and that therefore on the morning of the murder he had not purchased the gasoline with the intention of using it against Cozzolino, but to use the gardening tool.

The courtroom will return on October 8: the floor will be given to prosecutor Claudia Manconi for the closing speech, then to the civil party lawyers Giampaolo Murrighile, Antonio Fois and Massimo Perra.
