A sudden blackout, around 8:15 pm, and the tranquility of the pre-Easter Saturday in half of Cagliari turns into an obstacle course.
Several areas of the western quadrant of the city remained in the dark. In many streets, public lighting is completely absent . It took very little to cause a crisis in traffic and daily life: traffic lights out of order, slow traffic, blocked elevators and people trapped, with dozens of reports to the fire brigade. Problems also for many commercial activities, such as pubs and restaurants, which had to stop serving food and drinks.
Rescuers had to handle dozens of requests simultaneously, intervening in multiple locations around the city to free people stuck in elevators.
The blackout was caused by a fault in the primary cabin of Santa Gilla that serves several neighborhoods. Enel teams immediately intervened to resolve the technical problem.
"The fault should be resolved by this evening," the company said.
The situation started to return to normal around 9:30 p.m. By 10 p.m. all utilities were back on.
